Quick Guide: Where Do I Go for Help?

Now that Spring Break is behind you, the busiest part of the semester is approaching. Not only do you have to complete your final exams and projects; you have other worries, like registering for your next semester, paying for those classes, or applying to transfer or graduate. It’s a stressful time! Here’s a quick review of where you can turn for help at HACC.

For affording your classes and daily expenses:

HACC’s Financial Aid Office has links and information for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the source for getting grants, loans, and aid from the federal and state governments. Remember: the deadline is June 30th, and you are eligible for better funding if you submit your application earlier. 

The office also has information on scholarships from HACC and from other sources. If you are an active duty service member or veteran, the Financial Aid Office can help you find specialized funding.

Maybe your financial need goes beyond your school work. If you are struggling with housing, HACC’s CARE Center can connect you with local assistance. If you are experiencing food insecurity, The Keystone Education Yields Success (KEYS) Program can guide you through applying for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

For taking care of yourself:

The end of the semester takes its toll on any student. HACC works with M&S EAP Services, Inc. to provide three free counseling sessions to students in need. Fill out this form or call 1-800-543-5080 (or 1-855-264-3248 if you use TTY/TDD) to make an appointment.

To get your body moving, visit the Evans Physical Education Center to use their gym, courts, track, or field. HACC also has a wellness calendar. 

If you just need a break from your class work, HACC has an Events and Activities page that lists engagement groups, spiritual wellness events, and intellectual wellness events. You can also find a list of the top events offered in the current month. If you’re artsy, check out what’s happening at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center. For taking next steps:

Registration for Summer and Fall classes is just around the corner! It starts as early as March 31 for veterans; the complete schedule is here. HACC will hold a Registration Rally April 7-10– remember to sign up if you are interested.

If you hope to transfer to a four-year institution after graduating, Transfer Coaches are ready to meet with you. You can find their information and a list of HACC’s partner institutions through Transfer Services.

HACC’s Career Services can help students at all stages develop themselves professionally, whether they’re looking for a summer internship or changing careers. They offer assistance with resume writing, interview preparations and finding opportunities. 

Specifically, Career Services has a career management platform for HACC students and alumni to search for jobs and internships, along with an easy-to-read virtual job and internship bulletin board. Career Services also holds events most weekdays, which might address the transfer process to specific partner institutions, aspects of the job search or making the most out of internships.
